There's something magical about the musical looseness of a live kirtan.
Nobody is conducting it. It's just happening. And, you know, somebody out in the audience can change that. If somebody out there starts clapping at a certain point, the kirtan can explode in a whole different direction. To sit before that intelligence really fascinates me, to see how that works, to make the kind of music that is not based upon a plan, but in a sense finds the statue in the stone.
